Can sand have a beginning or an end?
Argentine writer Jorge Luis Borges built an entire story around the question. In The Book of Sand, the narrator acquires a strange book with infinitely many pages. He tries to find the first page, then the last, but fails at both.
The book takes its name from sand which, like the book, seems to have neither beginning nor end.
