On the coast of Argentina lives a small sand lizard that can swim through sand.
It lives among open coastal dunes with loose sand and very little vegetation. This is where it hunts, rests and hides.
When danger approaches, it can disappear beneath the sand in seconds. It also buries itself for the night.Once below the surface, it can keep moving straight through loose sand, without tunnels. Researchers describe the movement as swimming through sand.
