What is sand doing in a bottle of Belarusian vodka? Helping to clean it before it ever gets there.
Svayak vodka is filtered in five stages. After water treatment, the mixture passes through quartz sand, followed by birch charcoal and finally a platinum filter.
The quartz sand acts as a filtration medium, trapping particles as the liquid moves through it.
Sand in the vodka would be a problem. Sand in the filtration, however, is an important part of the production process and is also highlighted as part of the vodka’s quality.
