Random Sand Fact

Imagine you and a team working for days or weeks to create something, only to take a brief break before intentionally destroying it. All done with awareness and full presence.

Enter the sacred realm of Sand Mandalas, an ancient Tibetan Buddhist art form embraced in Bhutan and beyond.

The monks carefully place colored sand over days or weeks, forming intricate geometric patterns. The mandalas are said to radiate positive energies healing the environment and all who view them.

To witness the fully completed artwork, you must be quick. Destroying it shortly after completion is part of the process.

One swift gesture, a sweep, destroys the finished mandala, serving as a reminder of the impermanence of life and all in it.

The blessed mandala sand is scattered in nature as a blessing for all. Perhaps contributes to Bhutan’s official Gross National Happiness Index?!
