Random Sand Fact

In Costa Rica, there is a sand called iguana sand – and it is used in pottery.

In Guaitil and San Vicente, an old pottery tradition is still alive. The clay is mixed with Arena de Iguana, a local fine sand that makes the clay less plastic and easier to shape and fire.

The name comes from the places where iguanas dig nests for their eggs.
