Random Sand Fact
Grains of sand can be anything from minutes to billions of years old. If you want to greet newborn sand grains, head to any active volcano.
During eruptions, sand, volcanic ash, and pyroclastic material are thrown out. Sand plains and black sand beaches can form almost overnight.
Indonesia has more active volcanoes than any other nation. It has over 120 of the world’s active volcanoes dotted around it. The Bromo “Sea of Sand” is the result of one of them. It’s a huge, unearthly moonscape of a collapsed crater with fine volcanic sand stretching far. Hikers come from near and far to experience it.
As the sand age, some thousands of years from now, it’ll change shape, color, and composition. Unless volcanos keep throwing new sand on top :-)
