Random Sand Fact

Save the beach by drinking a beer!?

“The answer to the sand shortage could be to drink beer,” says a New Zealand beer company with a wink in a promotional clip. And it’s not just a marketing gimmick.

The brewery has created machines that turn empty beer bottles into sand in an effort to combat New Zealand’s (and the global) sand shortage.

They fragmentize the beer bottles via machines placed directly in bars for the consumer to witness the transformation straight on. Mere 5 seconds after a bottle goes in, sand comes out.

Beer Bottle sand is used in construction, roads, golf courses, and drainage projects. It both keeps natural sand on beaches and glass out of landfill.

What a win-win situation. Cheers!
