Think there’s no water anywhere in the desert, think again!

Under the sandy desert that covers 90% of Libya huge amounts of water hides. It’s clean fossil water, stored between rocks and sand grains, likely since the last ice age.

As Libya suffers from severe water shortage, means of accessing the water are of high interest. The “Great Manmade River” by some claimed the 8th wonder, is an example.

It’s the world’s largest irrigation project, with a network of gigantic pipes and aqueducts delivering water from reservoirs deep under the Sahara’s sands.
