In Mozambique, beach sand becomes building components in a 3D printer.
On Benguerra Island, local sand is mixed with seawater to create a building material used directly on site. The same sand mixture is fed into a specially developed 3D printer that forms components for walls, floors and tiles.
These are then combined with traditional local skills in carpentry, weaving and thatching.
The sand surrounding the building becomes part of the building.
