Random Sand Fact
In Bahrain, sand has been allowed to shape a building. Literally.
In Muharraq, the architect behind the Green Corner Building, a contemporary cultural building, cast large concrete elements directly against sand.
No prefabricated mould determined the surface. The sand did.
When the concrete was lifted, the irregularities of the sand remained as relief, making each element unique. Sand casting was also used for doors, shutters and other aluminium details.
A material usually mixed into concrete is doing something very different here: shaping it.
