Random Sand Fact
In an old Serbian folk tale, a single grain of sand can become a mountain.
A man came to a village and asked: How can people live here, with so little farmland and so much stone?
A farmer told him what the old people before him had said: when God walked the Earth, Saint Peter followed carrying a sack of fine sand grains. Wherever God wanted a mountain, he took a single grain, threw it on the ground and let it multiply.
But when they reached the village, Saint Peter’s sack split open. More than half the sand spilled out in the same place.
According to the tale, that’s why the ground became so full of stone.
