Random Sand Fact

How about moving in scoring hot sand day after day, carrying a heavy backpack, enduring sand storms – and paying quite a bit to experience pain? Too crazy not to try, right!?!

Marathon des Sables, MDS, in Morocco, is dubbed as the toughest footrace on Earth. It’s an annual six-stage ultramarathon in the Sahara equivalent of six regular marathons.

Every participant must carry a backpack with a week’s food and a survival kit, including an anti-venom pump.

While the first race in 1986 only had 23 entries, today, over 1000 runners line up at the start. Keeping sand grains away from feet despite running in dunes is a challenging must.

Up for it? Please tag me (OUAW’s founder along) for the thrill! I have tried and yes, it’s tough, painful  – and amazing. Find me a sponsor, and I’ll redo it ASAP despite being awfully ill-suited for it!
