Random Sand Fact

How does walking or running for days through a scorching sand desert, carrying a heavy backpack and risking sandstorms – and paying for it – sound?

The Marathon des Sables in Morocco is often called the toughest footrace on Earth. It is a stage race across the Sahara, around 250 kilometres over six stages, with participants carrying their own food and equipment.

Here, sand is the surface, the resistance, the landscape – and something that gets everywhere.

Grit, quite literally.

P.S. One of the grains in GRAINS was collected by OUAW’s founder during the Marathon des Sables in Morocco.
