A delicacy found in Togo is sand-roasted peanuts. To make them, you need sand, preferably sea sand for saltiness, raw peanuts, water, and salt.

1. Boil raw peanuts in salted water until the nut skin wrinkles.

2. Let the peanuts sun dry.

3. Heat up a pan filled with a thick layer of sand over an open fire until it’s flaming hot.

4. Add the peanuts and let them roast about 20 min while stirring constantly. Heated sand is said to evenly roast the nuts to perfection.
