Random Sand Fact
Found in Norway: a 3.6-billion-year-old grain of sand.
The tiny zircon grain was found in sandstone in central Norway. It is older than the surrounding bedrock and probably comes from what is now Greenland.
The grain travelled with rocks moved when continents collided and a vast mountain range formed hundreds of millions of years ago.
A 0.1-millimetre grain, with billions of years behind it.
