In the Vatican, a single grain of sand has been used to represent something impossible to count.
In the Bible, God promises Abraham that his descendants will become as numerous as the stars in the sky and the grains of sand on the seashore.
Speaking about the passage at the Vatican in 2017, Pope Francis turned the perspective around. Instead of trying to imagine all those grains, he asked each person to see themselves as one of them: “I am a grain of sand.”
From something impossibly vast to a single grain.
