Random Sand Fact
At petrol stations in Bangladesh, a bucket of sand is part of the fire protection.
Red metal buckets marked FIRE hang ready, filled with dry sand. With petrol or oil fires, water is not always the answer: it can spread the burning liquid.
Sand does the opposite. It can absorb spills and cover flames, cutting off their oxygen supply.
One of the simplest forms of fire protection still stands ready beside the pumps.
