Taiwan
Sand Origin
Yuguang Island BeachTaiwan is not yet a member of the United Nations. Some recognize it as a sovereign country, others do not. Regardless, OUAW wants to salute and connect with the people, ideas, and places of Taiwan too!
Random Sand Fact
Taiwan’s coast guard patrols the islands 24 hours a day, every day. The aim: to protect its sand.
In 2020 Taiwan expelled close to 4 000 sand-dredgers from its waters. The ships pull up sand from the sea bottom for building projects in other nations. Doing so disturbs marine life and underwater communication lines. And of course, depletes Taiwan of valuable sand.
