Random Sand Fact

How hot can sand get in the middle of Central Europe? Above 60°C.

Hungary’s last shifting sand dunes are found at Fülöpháza. Wind still moves the sand and reshapes the dunes, much like in a far drier desert landscape.

In summer, the sand surface can heat to above 60°C. The plants and animals who survive there, are adapted to heat, drought and sand that’s constantly on the move.
