Scared of ghosts or evil spirits attacking? Don’t worry; there’s an antidote – sand.

According to Jamaican folklore, throwing sand can protect against attacking spirits like the Jamaican duppy. Duppies, they say, are malevolent beings that cause mischief and can haunt or possess people. If you find yourself attacked by one, throw some sand its way; it’ll compel it to halt and count each sand grain, again and again.

With some sort of sand close by in most places, the necessary antidote to ward off evil spirits should be easily available.

Even if far from Jamaica’s pristine sand beaches. (Or wear a sand grain necklace to be ready at all times…)
