Random Sand Fact

In Jamaica, a beach was stolen.

In 2008, around 500 truckloads of white sand disappeared from Coral Spring Beach on Jamaica’s north coast. Roughly 400 metres of beach were gone.

Investigators suspected the sand had been sold on to other resorts. Forensic comparisons were made with sand from other hotels and beaches, but the results were not conclusive enough to prove where the stolen sand had ended up.

A few months later, Jamaica’s environmental authority said that around 40 per cent of the sand had already been naturally replenished.
