Random Sand Fact

In Palestine, sand has been melted into jewellery for more than a thousand years.

Hebron has one of the region’s oldest living glassblowing traditions. Traditionally, local sand was heated with soda and lime until it became glowing glass.

Today, glassblowers often use broken old glass instead of fresh sand. Bottles and other glass objects are remelted and shaped into lamps, vessels, bracelets and rings.

The glass has already been sand once.
