Why did the ancient Nasca civilization create sand art so large that it’s fully visible only from the sky?
The legendary Nasca lines still intrigue, almost 2000 years after people removed the top layer of dark stones to expose high contrasting light sand.
Gigantic land-art images of humans, animals, and plants. Even today, new lines continue to surface. A sandstorm a few years back revealed over 100 previously unseen ones.
The real mystery lay in the why, not in the how. The lines likely have a religious significance, used as pathways in ceremonial processions feet in the sand.
The why is still debatable. Not all sand-art is temporary!
