Random Sand Fact
Have you ever strolled along a beach and noticed perfectly spherical, tiny sand balls covering parts of it? You can see it in tropical locations, such as Samoa.
Well-disguised tiny crabs swiftly scatter and vanish as you walk towards or among the spheres. As soon as the tide recedes, sand bubbler crabs tunnel up from their grainy dens and begin their twice-daily sand-cleaning activity. The crab feeds on organic matter in sand, leaving behind balls of sand in strange star-like patterns in the sand.
If you get the opportunity, crouch down and watch the crabs return – you’ll be surprised how fast the balls appear!
