Random Sand Fact
How about a warm, nice bath – in sand?
On Jeju Island, South Korea, you can experience it. Black sand bathing, mosaltteum, is a traditional treatment on the island. During the height of summer, people come here to be covered by hot black sand.
It’s said that the sand’s warmth improves blood circulation, relieves muscle tension, and reduces stress – a rejuvenating experience promoting a sense of well-being. Just lying down and putting sand on your body is not a proper sand bath.
A sand bath specialist, a profession unique to Jeju, will bury your whole body deep in the sand, only the head sticking up. Sand therapists recommend three rounds, each 15 minutes long, resting and cooling off in between.
Let sand work its soothing wonders!
