Random Sand Fact
In an old Sri Lankan game, a bangle is hidden in the sand – and everyone pretends it is lost.
Mewara Keliya is traditionally played by girls during Sinhala and Tamil New Year.
One of them hides her bangle in the sand. Then the game begins. She asks the others if they have seen it. They answer through song: no.
As the singing continues, she moves closer and closer to the place where she hid the bangle herself. Finally, she bends down and retrieves it from the sand.
Things disappear easily in sand. Here, that is the whole point.
