Random Sand Fact

What looks like a big dirt road crossing the savanna in Kidepo Valley, in Northern Uganda is a river of sand.

Kidepo River is a seasonal river with water flowing rapidly in it only for a few hours at a time during or after heavy rain in its catchment area. All other times the river consists of a thick bed of light sand between banks lined with palm trees.

Some animals, such as baboons, know what hides under the sand. They dig in the sand, making wells to get water from under it until the next sudden flow of water fills it.
