Random Sand Fact
“SOS Save our sands” it says on big signs at beaches on the island Koh Nang Yuan in Thailand.
The signs tell visitors to avoid laying on towels in the sand and invite us to sit or lie directly in the sand or on beach chairs instead.
According to the sign, tonnes of beach sand is lost yearly trapped in the many visitors’ beach towels. It even points out the math; if 100 grams of sand unintentionally get trapped in each person’s towel, then one kg will disappear with every ten people, and so on.
It adds up. Every grain matters!
