Random Sand Fact

In Barbados, sand was spread across the floor of a burial vault to catch whoever was moving the coffins.

It was said that the heavy coffins kept being found out of place, even though the vault was sealed.

In the end, fine sand was smoothed over the floor. Every footprint would show. The vault was sealed again.

When it was reopened, the coffins had moved once more. The sand was untouched.

That, at least, is the story. There is no contemporary evidence, but it remains one of the country’s best-known ghost stories.
