Random Sand Fact

In Liberia, discarded water bags and sand are turned into bricks.

A lot of drinking water is sold in small sealed plastic bags. When the water is gone, the bags are thrown away and end up in streets and dumps.

A few young companies in the capital have found a use for them. The plastic is melted and mixed with sand, and the mix is shaped into paving tiles and bricks. The plastic works like glue that holds the sand grains together.

A single brick can contain more than a thousand empty water bags.
