Random Sand Fact
In Peru, the Inca filled their most important square with white sand from the sea.
Cusco lies high in the Andes, far from the coast. Even so, the Inca brought white sand from the Pacific coast and covered the square at the heart of the city with it.
They dedicated the square to the creator god. During ceremonies, they buried offerings of gold, silver and precious shells in the sand.
Today it’s the Plaza de Armas, and tourists cross it every day.
