In Equatorial Guinea, an old saying holds that half the islands live underwater.
In Corisco Bay, sandbanks form islands so low that a boat can reach them at low tide and find open water in the same place a few hours later.
As the tide rises, the sand disappears beneath the surface. When it retreats, the islands emerge again.
