Ethiopia

Egypt’s fields come from the mountains of Ethiopia.

Every summer, the great rains fall on the Ethiopian highlands. The rivers tear sand and silt from the mountains and carry it towards the Nile. Almost all the material the Nile carries began its journey in Ethiopia.

For thousands of years, the floods spread it across the Nile valley. It became the fields that fed Egypt, and the delta where the river meets the sea.

Egypt has been called the gift of the Nile. Much of the gift come from Ethiopia.
