Random Sand Fact
On a beach in Georgia, you can push a magnet into the sand and pull out grains with it.
Along parts of the Black Sea coast, the dark sand contains unusually high concentrations of magnetite, an iron mineral attracted to magnets.
At Ureki, people have long used the sand in treatments that involve lying in, or being partly buried beneath, the sun-warmed black grains. The town developed as a health resort around claims that the magnetic sand could ease various conditions.
The magnetism is easy to demonstrate. The health claims are more debated.
