Sand storage can improve both health and income in rural West-Africa.

Trials in Ghana have shown that sweet potatoes stay fresh several months longer when stored in dry sand. 

Sand storage extending shelf life allows people to sell and eat fresh food for more months of the year, which improves incomes, food security and nutritional status of resource-poor farm families.
