Random Sand Fact
According to legend, the sand of the Curonian Spit was carried there in an apron.
The giantess Neringa saw storms batter the fishermen on the coast. She filled her apron with sand, carried it out to sea and emptied it into the water. She kept going until a long bank of sand separated the sea from the calm lagoon.
The spit is now almost 100 kilometres long. The municipality on the Lithuanian side is called Neringa.
