Random Sand Fact

The saying says that all grains of sand carry a story.

How about listening to grains telling of buried villages, unexcavated pagan trade centers, Soviet nomenklatura, and the world’s first bird observatory? Grains at the thin curved sand-dune spit, half of it belonging to Lithuania and the other to Russia, hold it all.

Today the spit is a shared UNESCO World Heritage Site and home to the highest moving sand dunes in Europe. It’s known for its history, sand, and sand thriving flora and fauna.

The ever-shaping dunes are on my to-go list. Will you include it in yours?
