Random Sand Fact

The Marshall Islands is the stereotypical image of paradise. It’s also the place of one of humans’ most violent attacks on nature.

“Rising off the lagoon floor was a large funnel of water, sand, and coral rock” is an eyewitness description of one of the atomic bombs dropped in the Bikini Atoll test area. The total effect of the test bombs corresponded to roughly 7,000 Hiroshima bombs.

Despite plutonium-bearing sand still remaining in the area, the ocean life is blooming back to life!
