Random Sand Fact

Parrot fish poop fine white sand, lots of it!

Up to 85% of sand on coral beaches, as in Timor-Leste, in the Coral Triangle, can be Parrot fish poop.

The colorful fish scrape algae and dead coral off reefs with their parrot-like beaks and at the same time keep reefs healthy. Non-digestible parts come out as sand.

Parrot fish lives in warm oceans and is one of the coolest animals. It can change its shape, color, and even gender. Some even cover themselves in mucus cocoon pajamas at night!
