Tiny sand bubbler crabs can decorate an entire beach with balls of sand.
As the tide retreats, they emerge from their burrows on beaches in Timor-Leste.
They are only about a centimetre across, but they work fast. The crabs pick up sand, sift out microscopic organic material to eat, and roll what remains into tiny pellets.
Working outwards from their burrows, they leave hundreds of pellets in circles and radiating patterns across the beach.
When the tide returns, everything is erased.
At the next low tide, they begin again.
