Random Sand Fact

If you’ve ever walked on sand you’ve probably unknowingly stepped on a dragon.

Mud dragons hide in sand. Many are in sizes no bigger than grains of sand; you’ll need to look closely to see one. If you do, you’ll see tiny creatures with spines down their backs, making them look like dragons.

More than 200 known species are hiding in beach sand worldwide, from cold oceans to tropical lagoons, as around Micronesia’s many islands.

Mud dragons eat microorganisms between the sand grains and help keep sand fresh. Like a beach sand cleaning patrol!
