Being landlocked, without a coastline, does not stop Paraguay from arranging world champion games in sand.
In 2019 Paraguay hosted the FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup in Asuncion. Far from any seashore but not too far from the river beach Playa de La Costanera.
Beach soccer played in thick layers of sand grow fast in popularity. It’s a crowd-pleaser with traditional football moves adapted to the sand. It has more of everything: aerial play, spectacular dribbles, and lots of goals. Not to mention sand :-)
