Random Sand Fact
Paraguay’s first confirmed dinosaur fossil was found in a paving stone.
More than 100 million years ago, a small carnivorous dinosaur crossed sand in a vast desert. One footprint remained, was buried and hardened with the sand into sandstone.
Millions of years later, the stone was quarried and used as paving outside a church in Asunción.
That is where the footprint was found again.
A step in sand became stone, then pavement, and eventually Paraguay’s first confirmed fossil from the age of dinosaurs.
