Random Sand Fact

People around Kukawy, in Poland, have revived the tradition of creating art in and with sand. A tradition that almost died out during communist rule after World War 2.

So-called sand carpets were originally made indoors on dirt floors and passed down from generation to generation. The tradition moved outdoors when modern floors became popular. The motifs of older sand patterns, such as the tree of life and ancient solar and lunar symbols, suggest that the sand drawings are connected to pre-Christian belief.
