Random Sand Fact

If you’re visiting Slovakia, instead of just admiring historical sites, take action and get involved.

Roll up your sleeves and carry a bucket of sand to contribute to the restoration of the 13th-century Zborov Castle. When at the castle, join in by moving sand buckets that signs encourage visitors to. By getting involved, you’ll help but also gain hands-on experience, and get a glimpse of the builders’ challenges.

Legends surrounding the castle suggest that it was originally meant to sit atop a higher hill, but mysteriously, the stones repeatedly shifted to a lower spot overnight.

The devil was blamed, but the truth is simpler: local workers wanted to avoid an even steeper climb :-)
