Random Sand Fact
Can you plough sand and rake water?
In old Slovak sayings, that is the kind of thing you do when the work is in vain.
To “plough sand and rake water”, “sow on sand”, or try to “twist a whip from sand” all belong to a group of expressions for things that simply cannot be made to work.
Sand becomes the image of something that refuses to hold together.
People keep trying anyway.
