Random Sand Fact

Dominicans used a clever tactic to disable their enemy’s cannons during a battle between the British and the French for control over the Caribbean in the late 18th century.

In a daring move, the French Dominicans visited the British troops, got them drunk, and spiked the cannons with an unexpected weapon: sand.

By filling the cannons’ fire holes with sand, they made the artillery useless, affecting the battle’s outcome. Using sand to neutralize the cannons played a significant role in the moment.
