Invisible, until it isn’t.

Invisible until you look. Then impossible to unsee.

Found on a beach on Oahu, Hawaii. Nearly invisible. Transparent.

Under magnification: a natural glass structure.
From a sea sponge. Three arms. Exact angles.

Scanned at a research facility. Magnified 24× and cast in silver.

Small enough to miss. Precise enough to hold.

Hua One — a grain of sand in Hawaiian

Sand is grit. Grit is sand.
The small is never small.

Description

About the Grain

  • An exact magnification  of a grain of sand from Lanikai, Oahu, Hawaii, USA
  • Scanned using micro-CT imaging at a research facility
  • Magnified 24:1
  • The grain is a sponge spicule — a needle-like structure from a sea sponge.

Material

  • 100% recycled sterling silver
  • Slightly thicker unisex chain
  • OUAW-engraved tag by the clasp

Size

  • Chain length 50 cm / 20 in
  • Pendant grain 26 mm/ 1,0 in (24x enlarged sand grain)

Care

  • Wipe with a soft cloth after use to remove oils or residuePolish with a polishing cloth or silver dip when needed — if using silver dip, finish with a dry cloth
  • Never wear in natural hot springs or volcanic pools — the minerals blacken silver within seconds
  • Store in the box or a soft pouch when not wearing
  • Arrange chains in loops to avoid tangling — never force or pull

Pro tip!
Find the small ziplock bag under the soft insert in your box. Store your silver in it between wears — it darkens far more slowly. Not as fancy — but practical!

A note on this grain:
